favorite icons ( favicon.ico )
A web designer can create favicons in different ways and many recent web browsers can then make use of them. Browsers such as IE 5.0+, Mozilla Firefox, and Aol Explorer, support this feature and are able to show the webpage's favicon in the url address bar or in the tabbed document interface next to the page title.
The favorite icon is found in the root directory of your web browser labeled as favicon.ico. This image would automatically be used in the browser's favorites (bookmarks) display. The dimensions of the favicon is 16 pixels by 16 pixels. Although the .ico format is still used, other browsers now support .png and .gif animated image formats.
this is a fairly easy tutorial. so let's start.
- materials needed::
- an image, preferably resized to the resolution of 16 × 16 pixels;
- an ftp server (so you can upload the icon onto the root directory of your web)
i think that's all.
1. did you find your image? GOOD!
2. save that 16×16 pixel image as favicon.ico.
3. after that, you can import that file to your root directory
4. for some programs, you will see that you have done it right once you see your little graphic beside the favicon.ico file. if
you dont see it, don't worry, it will show up later. XP
5. place this code between your < head > and < /head > tags
6. reload the page. and KABLAMMMMMM!
tip::: if you reloaded the page and your favicon did not show up, try clearing the cashe and the temporarily saved files
